Jerzy Sterczyński 

He was born in 1957. He started learning to play the piano at the age of six. After graduating from the Music High School in Bielsko-Biała, he studied at the Music Academy in Katowice in the class of prof. Andrzej Jasiński, obtaining a diploma with distinction in 1981. He perfected his skills in London under John Bingham.

He is the laureate of the Youth Stage of the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk and the 2nd prize winner at the International Music Competition in Zaragoza (1983). He is involved in intensive concert activities. He has performed in Austria, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, France, Spain, South Korea, Kuwait, Germany, Portugal and Italy. He took part in the Chopin Festival in Duszniki, as well as in festivals in Lockenhaus and La Chaise-Dieu.

Recordings hold a special place in his artistic activity. On thirteen compact discs, Jerzy Sterczyński recorded a complete set of nocturnes, waltzes and polonaises as well as Sonata II and minor works by Fryderyk Chopin, solo works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Reger and Szymanowski as well as concerts by Chopin, Lessl and Dobrzyński. The latest album, released in 2005, contains works by Józef Wieniawski: solo and cello sonata.

Since 1989 Jerzy Sterczyński has been a professor at The Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. He has been the Chair of the Faculty of Piano, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Piano, Harpsichord and Organ.
